road to the 2025 World Cup of Speed Skydiving:  things to do on bad weather days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First day at Hohenems was great.\u00a0 Successful sunset load speed run with great first-time-here numbers and astounding views.\u00a0 Met awesome people.\u00a0 But we&#8217;re grounded for the next few days due to weather.\u00a0 What&#8217;s a speed skydiver to do in Hohenems\/Dornbirn\/Lustenau while it rains?<\/p>\n<h2>Starting the day right<\/h2>\n<h3>Stretching<\/h3>\n<p>15 minutes of meditation to calm your mind is a great start.\u00a0 In the last 10 days I traveled from San Francisco to Pattaya, did some training jumps, then flew over to Z\u00fcrich and drove to Hohenems.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a lot to pack in less than a week!\u00a0 Meditation helps to stay calm and focused, and to minimize jet lag.<\/p>\n<p>Long haul flights result in lots of body aches and pains.\u00a0 Do some stretches for that.\u00a0 I follow different routines that my body work coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/heidiliftsss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Heidi Breitmann<\/strong><\/a> designed for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground day option 1:\u00a0 1-hr of warm up, isometric, planks, and core strength exercises, to stay limber and strong, followed by lifting<\/li>\n<li>Ground day option 2:\u00a0 15-min warm up, and core strength exercises, followed by 45 minutes of intense cardiovascular exercise<\/li>\n<li>Comp day:\u00a0 15-min start-of-day stretching routine to remain lose and focused<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Option 2 was on the menu for the first grounded day, and I alternate days between that and strength training.\u00a0 More on where to go swimming in Hohenems later on this page.<\/p>\n<p>Heidi worked with me for a few weeks at Fitness SF to prefer to swim over running for cardio during competition days.\u00a0 I checked out various options in the area, the best place to go is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stadtbad.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>das Stadtbad<\/strong><\/a> in Dornbirn.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-269\" and there&#8217;s also Sauna and other services on-site.\u00a0 You may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stadtbad.at\/erlebnis-stadtbad\/e-ticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>purchase your entry ticket (1.5 or 4 hours) on-line<\/strong><\/a> and add the entry ticket to your iPhone or similar wallet.\u00a0 Beware that they start at different times almost every day of the week.\u00a0 Wednesdays they start at 09:00, but Thursdays they start at 07:00.\u00a0 There are also women- or men-only times for the various pools, plus lessons.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stadtbad.at\/erlebnis-stadtbad\/oeffnungszeiten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Check out their current schedule<\/strong><\/a> for full details.<\/p>\n<h3>Strength training \/ full gym<\/h3>\n<p>Hands down, the best place in the area is purfitness LUSTENAU, at Millenium Park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-270\" src=\"https:\/\/ciurana.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/purfitnessLustenau.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1701\" height=\"1204\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.purfitness.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Great facilities, great hours, and they offer day passes<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Heidi is all the way in another continent, but there are also excellent trainers at purfitness if you need a one-on-one fitness routine fine-tuning.\u00a0 Great hours of operation, and they have locations in Lustenau, Hohenems, Lauterach, and Egg.\u00a0 All are accessible to wherever you are staying.<\/p>\n<h2>Finding healthy food<\/h2>\n<p>Here are the best locations to have food when grounded \/ away from the airport:<\/p>\n<p>If you want a reasonable, sit down restaurant, head to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/schmugglar.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Schmugglar in Lustenau<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Great place downtown, they&#8217;re open from early morning until evening, with a hot kitchen all day.\u00a0 Full menu, lots of salad options, lots of healtby food options.\u00a0 No reservations required.\u00a0 Take a stroll around downtown after your meail, it&#8217;s a cool area.<\/p>\n<p>In a rush or want lots of cheaper but solid options?\u00a0 Head to the food court at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Messepark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dorbirn Messepark shopping mall<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 There are several great food options, with a wide selection and price ranges.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you have cooking facilities and prefer to make your own meals, and don&#8217;t want to go on a brainless hunt for the right supermarket, there&#8217;s a full-service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interspar.at\/standorte\/interspar-hypermarkt-dornbirn-messepark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Interspar supermarket at the Messepark<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(The airfield where we&#8217;ll hold the competition is right behind Messepark, and you can see it from the aircraft during northbound takeoffs.)<\/p>\n<h2>Exploring<\/h2>\n<p>You meditated, worked out, found great food, and have the rest of the day to do something&#8230;\u00a0 what to do?\u00a0 Sweet and simple:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.komoot.com\/guide\/225312\/attractions-around-hohenems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Attractions and places to see in Hohenems<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Head over to Z\u00fcrich, have lunch at the Zeughauskeller, walk along the Limmat, check out the Lindesmuseum &#8211; an hour away<\/li>\n<li>Head over to M\u00fcnchen (Munich) and check out the historical downtown, have an awesome day &#8212; two hours away<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>There are a ton of things to do to keep us relaxed and at peace with the universe while we&#8217;re grounded.\u00a0 Everything I listed here (except the day trips) is an option within a 15-minute drive, tops, from the DZ.\u00a0 From mental and physical preparation, to great meals, to things to do, there are lots of
